I really enjoyed reading this and iā€™m happy to have stumbled across it, Heidi šŸ˜Š Itā€™s so true that a restaurant can be a symbol of something larger, I remember an old 1980s-style McDā€™s closing in my local area to make way for urban development, and while it wasnā€™t immigrant-owned, a lot of immigrants had spent hours there for decades and a lot of memories were in that place. Hope the new Super Bowl still tastes as good! ;)

Hey Clare, great to "meet" you here! Where are you based? Your comment made me tear up immediately - Asian Australian families love their McDonalds (we call it Maccas) and it was always such a treat when our parents had time to take us for a Happy Meal!

This is such a beautiful and moving piece, Heidi! I love how you captured so many stories across generations and between communities through the story of the Super Bowl restaurant. So much of what you wrote really resonated for me. And that picture of the neonlit restaurant front of Super Bowl evokes a lot of nostalgia. Iā€™m happy to read that theyā€™re open again, even if under different management šŸ’›
